Position Summary
The Project Manager provides direct support to project labor teams in the heavy, highway, infrastructure, site work, and concrete construction industry on projects up to $10 million. Planning and execution of the job includes resolving issues, managing resources, project coordination, interfacing with all levels of project representatives regarding the project’s progress, and oversight of project accounting to efficiently, successfully, and profitably complete assigned construction projects.
Responsibilities Include:
- Serve as the single point-of-contact, establishing, maintaining and managing customer/owner, and subcontractor expectations regarding overall project performance.
- Report project status and performance data to owner and team members
- Plan, monitor, and control the project throughout its lifecycle
- Set-up job cost codes and budgets
- Code invoices with job cost codes
- Ensure that project reporting is submitted on-time (Submittals, Minority, Progress, etc.)
- Review supplier\sub quotes and order materials for jobs using company’s PO System
- Prepare schedules for jobs
- Attend job meetings including pre-construction, project, staff meetings
- Assist with take-off for job proposals/bids
- Monitor quantities on completed work and prepare pay estimates
- Prepare job contact list and project manual for field personnel
- Notify responsible parties in any change or deviation of original work and prepare change order requests
- Demonstrate appropriate people skills to facilitate smooth operation of the project
- Create RFI’s
- Conduct thorough project closeouts and see that all paperwork and signoffs are completed as required
- Develop appropriate materials for project meetings and record minutes for future reference
- Maintain thorough, organized and legible job files
Qualifications and Skills:
REQUIRED:
- Minimum 3 years of experience successfully managing DOT and\or heavy\highway\civil projects (preferred: PA, WV or OH DOT)
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook and all forms of data entry
- Effective utilization of the internet as a research and information source
- Ability to organize information such as emails, files, etc. for easy access and recall
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to improve overall organization efficiency
- Understanding of construction language, materials and methods and ability to communicate effectively within the construction environment
- Ability to compose letters alone or based on materials and data supplied by others
Has the ability to train others to perform at acceptable levels
Position Summary:
The Project Engineer provides direct support to the project team in the heavy, highway, infrastructure, site work, and concrete construction industry on projects ranging from $250,000 – $10 million. This position directly supports the Estimator and Project Managers to efficiently, successfully, and profitably complete assigned construction projects.
This is an entry level position providing hands-on experience and an opportunity to grow with our company. A. Merante Contracting will assign each project engineer a mentor to ensure they are learning how to carry out all job responsibilities. An ideal candidate will learn quickly, speak up when they need direction, and will always strive to play their part in a project’s success.
Responsibilities
Assist the Estimator with:
• Take-offs
• Submittals
• Contract forms
• Solicitation for material and sub-contractor quotes
Maintain and update project compliance items:
• Start-up: submittals, COI’s, subcontracts, PO’s, job boxes, etc.
• Ongoing: RFI’s, CPR’s, Certifications, vendor docs, etc.
• Close-out: Force accounts, change orders, lien waivers, DBE reports, etc.
Maintain the project (electronic and hard copy) systems and ensure critical documents are obtained from vendors and internal personnel.
Record meeting minutes when necessary
Review daily time cards for accuracy
Report to and learn from project management and field leadership
May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have a B.S. Civil Engineering or Construction Management and experience with field management, engineering or estimating in heavy civil and structures, i.e. bridges, culverts road reconstruction, retaining walls, site work, underground utilities, excavation and earth moving.
Additional preferred qualifications are:
• Experience in a construction office
• PennDOT ECMS system experience
• Softwares: Bluebeam, HCSS HeavyBid and HeavyJob, Powerproject, P6, Foundation, and AutoCAD
• Ability to travel locally for pre-bid conferences, site visits, bid reviews, and other purposes as needed to fully perform the functions of this position.
This is a full-time, in-person, and permanent position.

This position directly supports the Project Managers to efficiently, successfully, and profitably complete assigned construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Manager to maintain and update project compliance items:
- Start-up: submittals, quotes, COI’s, subcontracts, PO’s, etc.
- Ongoing: RFI’s, CPR’s, Certifications, production quantities, etc.
- Close-out: Change orders, lien waivers, DBE reports, punch lists, etc.
- Maintain the project (electronic & hard copy) systems and ensure critical documents are obtained from vendors and internal personnel.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have at least 1-3 years of field management, engineering or estimating experience in heavy civil and structures, i.e. bridges, culverts road reconstruction, retaining walls, site work, underground utilities, excavation and earth moving.
Computer and Excel proficiency are required.
Additional preferred qualifications are:
- OSHA 10+ training – If not, we will provide.
- Experience in a construction office
- HCSS software and the PennDOT ECMS system experience

Position Summary:
The Estimator is responsible for estimating, proposal development and management for public and private construction projects, and assembling complete bid packages and proposals to efficiently, successfully, and profitably obtain and complete assigned construction projects. This position reports to the President.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop estimates ranging from $200,000 – $10 million+ from various types of bid documents and specifications and their key components such as bonding, insurance, indemnification and damage clauses.
- Ensure thorough and accurate quantity takeoffs.
- Thoroughly read plans and specifications and review for accurate scope of work and means & methods assessment.
- Visit proposed job sites (local\regional only)
- Attend pre-bid meetings
- Obtain owner sign-off on all bids before submittal
- Understand and be able to account for factors outside company control which will impact the final bid package
Qualifications
- REQUIRED: 5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil and structures, i.e. bridges, culverts road reconstruction, retaining walls, site work, underground utilities, excavation and earth moving.
- Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid Estimating System preferred

Position Description
Triaxle Dump Truck Driver – Construction Industry/Local Work Experience with Tractor Trailer and Lowboy a great plus Competitive Wages, Signing Bonus and Company Paid Health Coverage.
Position Summary:
The primary function of this position is to move materials to and from our jobsites. In addition, the driver is expected to:
- Be familiar with and follow D.O.T. regulations
- Conduct proper pre-and post-trip assessments to ensure equipment is in good working order
- Pickup and/or deliver materials or equipment safely to jobsites
- Conduct general maintenance and housekeeping to maintain equipment.
- Clean up work area and equipment at end of day and ensure all equipment is properly secured for the night
- Make sure that all tools and equipment are picked up at the end of each job.
- Special Projects as Needed
Required Qualifications:
- Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License
- Clean Driving Record
- 2 years of experience Triaxle Dump Truck Hauling in a construction environment
- Computer and tablet capable – all reporting is done electronically
- Ability to be on-time and work with minimal supervision
- Good physical condition, able to climb in and out of equipment
- Flexibility in schedule – Days and, sometimes, evenings\weekends
- Ability to work in all weather conditions

We have several openings for pipelayers, operators and laborers. Laborers are required to perform physical tasks associated with all aspects of heavy construction. Candidates must be able to work in a fast paced and physically demanding environment that is most typically outdoors in all varieties of weather conditions. Safety is the main priority at A. Merante and laborers, pipelayers and operators are required to have knowledge of safe operations and driving practices as well as an understanding of power tools. Candidates must be able work as part of a crew and assist other crew members in order complete tasks in a timely manner. Knowledge of power tools and construction equipment is required.
Must have at least 5 years’ experience in mainline utilities, heavy commercial site construction, concrete, roadway, and\or grading.

The Construction Foreman is responsible for providing team leadership and setting the standard for workmanship and work ethic. The onsite foreman is responsible for the supervision and management of all workers assigned to their projects. The Foreman will build their team to successfully complete assigned construction projects and delegate responsibilities as needed. Strong candidates know how assessing information based upon understanding the project blueprints and or specifications is key to the successful outcome of the project.
Responsibilities Include:
- Laying out work weeks ahead to ensure materials and equipment are ready for the project schedule
- Reading blueprints, plans, and surveys
- Developing grades and making necessary adjustments if changes occur
- Generating daily work sheets with cost codes and recording quantities
- Ensuring safety compliance on all activity
- Communicating with owner and coworkers to assist in project coordination
- Delegating tasks to team members and holding them accountable
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years experience with mainline utilities and heavy construction work including deep trench work (over 5 feet) and large pipe work (12″ and larger)
- Minimum 2 years running jobs
- Competency with smart phones and tablets\computers
- Willingness to work additional hours, if necessary, to complete projects on-time and on-budget

The Heavy Highway Construction Superintendent is responsible for providing team leadership and setting the standard for workmanship, production and work ethic to successfully complete assigned, regional construction projects.
Responsibilities and Duties
Reporting to the President, the Superintendent will oversee field operations on multiple projects to ensure that self-performed and subcontracted work is in compliance with contract documents and the project schedule.
Responsibilities will also include, but will not be limited to:
- Assist in the development of project schedules and sequence of work.
- Assure all work is in accordance with contract documents.
- Have working knowledge of owner contract, subcontracts, purchase orders and submittals
- Be the point of contact for the release and delivery dates for all critical path material and equipment.
- Attend internal and external project meetings in order to summarize field conditions and convey look-ahead activities.
- Monitor field productivity by supervising field work to assure all work is put in place in the most cost efficient and professional manner.
- Have good working knowledge of equipment.
- Enforce company and client safety policies
Qualifications and Skills
REQUIRED: Minimum of 10 years of experience in Heavy, Highway, Site Work and\or Mainline Utilities .
Candidate must be computer proficient, able to prioritize tasks, and effectively communicate verbally and in writing with clients, and team members.
